Edge SIM

Edge SIM is the world’s first mobile connectivity solution that securely connects any edge device to anywhere without touching the public internet.

Use Edge SIM to directly connect your devices to clouds, data centres, and office locations worldwide – and manage your end-to-end IoT connectivity in real-time through the Console Connect platform.

Edge SIM brings together the enhanced performance of private networking with the flexibility and ubiquity of mobile networks – giving your full control and security over your global IoT assets.

What mobile technologies are supported?

Presently 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G are supported worldwide, with more 5G locations coming soon.

Can previously set up Console Connect IoT SIM cards become Edge SIMs?

Edge SIMs and the earlier product, IoT SIM cards, work on different pools of SIM cards, which means an IoT SIM cannot be upgraded to an Edge SIM. However, all SIMs are visible within the same management portal via our app, which will enable you to manage setting up services on an Edge SIM if you choose.

What services does Edge SIM provide?

Edge SIM supports data services that bypass the public internet.

Can I set up a dedicated APN?

The underlying technology supports dedicated APNs, but the functionality is not currently available through our self-service online portal. Please contact the team on [email protected] if you require a customised solution.

What types of connectivity are available with your Edge SIM?

An Edge SIM is an access point to the Console Connect ecosystem and is bundled with private IoT Gateway services, so you can view connectivity networks through the Console Connect platform using CloudRouter®.

Does Edge SIM offer internet connectivity?

Edge SIM does not currently offer internet connectivity, but it is on the roadmap for delivery in the near future. A firewall service to increase security on Edge SIM will allow you to bypass NAT and manage your own security firewall policies.

What kind of SIM cards do you provide?

We offer all sizes of standard physical SIM card currently in common use:

  • Mini-SIM card (2FF)
  • Micro SIM (3FF)
  • Nano SIM (4FF)

If you require an industrial grade SIM or eSIM (eUICC), please get in touch with our team on [email protected] who will be happy to discuss the options that are available to you.

How many countries does Edge SIM cover?

Our Edge SIM supports more than 180 countries, which have been categorised into IoT Pricing or Service zones.

Does Edge SIM support both Physical plug-in SIM and eSIM?

Currently, Edge SIM only supports physical plug-in SIMs. eSIM is planned to be supported in the near future.

How do I manage my Edge SIMs?

Everyone with a Console Connect Edge SIM receives access to a SIM management portal. You will receive credentials and a link by email after your first Edge SIM order.

In the SIM management portal, users can manage the lifecycle of their SIMs (activation and deactivation), as well as check the SIM connectivity performance, and perform troubleshooting.

For additional access via an API, please get in touch with your sales representative for more information.

What type of latency performance does Edge SIM offer?

The Console Connect Edge SIM’s latency performance depends on what technology is used (2G, 3G, 4G or 5G) and the traffic routing from the devices to the final destinations. In terms of routing, all mobile IoT traffic is routed through our regional IoT gateways to the Console Connect platform.

Internet of Things (IoT)

For applications not suited to Edge SIM, Console Connect offers IoT SIM, detailed as below. For many of the use cases for IoT SIM, Edge SIM is suitable and we would recommend new orders use the private capability of Edge SIM, available for order through the Console Connect platform. IoT SIM is not currently available for order through the self-service platform – if you require this feature, please contact our sales team directly.

What mobile technologies are supported?

Presently 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G are supported worldwide.

What types of connectivity are available with your IoT SIM?

By default all Console Connect IoT SIMs have internet connected SIMs. All SIMs utilize IPv4 addresses and are NAT. A firewall service to increase security is in the roadmap.
Fully private IoT connections using Console Connect to access Enterprise networks or Cloud service providers are also available. If you are interested in this option please contact [email protected].

What type of latency performance does your IoT SIM offer?

The latency performance of the Console Connect IoT SIM are dependent on what technology is used (2G, 3G, 4G or 5G). In terms of routing, all IoT traffic is routed through our regional IoT gateways.

What type of performance can I expect with the Console Connect IoT SIM?

Performance is highly dependent on the technology, device, mobile network operator, and local conditions where the IoT device is located.

Are customized mobile APNs offered?

Customized APNs are supported, but are presently not available for ordering via the online portal. If you are interested in this option please contact [email protected].

Are other price plans available?

Other price plans including SIM bundle and pooled plans are available by contacting us at [email protected].

How do I manage my SIMs?

All users of Console Connect IoT will receive access to a SIM management portal.

The SIM management portal is located here and credentials are sent by email together with your first IoT order.

In the SIM portal users can manage their SIMs (activate, deactivate), check on SIM performance, and perform troubleshooting.

APIs are also available.

What kind of SIM cards do you provide?

On the online ordering portal standard 2FF, 3FF and 4FF SIM cards are provided.
