Console Connect is now enabled in more data centres in the Amsterdam city region of the Netherlands.

The availability of new Console Connect-enabled data centres in Amsterdam forms part of our wider European expansion plan, which has seen many more locations added across Ireland, the UK, Germany and France in recent weeks.

As a result, Console Connect is now available in 300+ data centres worldwide. Customers can purchase on-demand connectivity between all of these data centre locations, other key partners and cloud-on ramp operators, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and IBM Cloud.

Europe’s internet hub

Console Connect is now offering more interconnection choice in the one of Europe’s most important data centre ecosystems.

As well as being one of the most connected cities in the region, Amsterdam also acts as an important connection point between the UK and Europe – the city is connected by approximately 9 subsea cables to the UK and US.

Amsterdam has been at the forefront of Europe’s digital economy and today is the European headquarters for the likes of Netflix, Cisco and Tesla. The colocation requirements of these international organisations are served by the city’s many data centres, which are found to the southeast and northwest of the Central Business District, as well as in municipalities further outside the city. For example, there is a growing concentration of data centres in the Schiphol-Rijk industrial estate in proximity to the international airport.

Covering a radius of approximately 50km, the Amsterdam city region is said to house about 70% of the Netherlands total number of data centres.

Such has been the rapid growth of Amsterdam’s data centre sector that a temporary ban on data centre development was imposed in certain parts of the Dutch capital last year. It is hoped the ban will be lifted in the months to come.
